Nuquí is a small town located where the Nuquí river meets the Pacific Ocean. During certain sunsets, river and sea waters turn pink. No roads lead to Nuquí - it can only be reached by plane or boat.
Nuquí's population is Afro-descendant and Indigenous. They speak Spanish and are mostly Catholic. Its 3000 inhabitants listen to Reggaeton all day and dance to it all night.
Some families plant rice and plaintains, in small gardens spread alongside the shores of Nuqui river. Some nights, men go in small boats into the open sea, and return the morning after loaded with small fish. Other supplies arrive sometimes in boats from nearby villages.
Nuquí has electricity for a few hours almost every evening, and each family has their own water tank in the back of the house.
